Turkmenistan will join the agreements of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways
The ongoing work on Turkmenistan's accession to the agreements on the International Transit Tariff and the Common Transit Tariff of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways was reported on January 14 at a meeting of the Government of the country.
Joining the treaties will allow the country to develop a convenient platform for agreeing on common tariffs for transit along the China and Europe routes.
The General Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers Mammethan Chakyev noted that, in order to stimulate the intensification of international transport corridors in the direction of China-Europe and the opening of new railway routes, increasing the volume of container traffic, it becomes necessary to implement a favorable competitive pricing policy.
The Turkmendemiryollary Agency (“Turkmenistan Railways”), being a full member of the OJSC, has studied all the possibilities of joining the agreements, which will help improve the country's transport and logistics system, study tariff information, and expand the geography of rail transit traffic.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that, having a favorable geographical position, the country has a solid transport and transit potential, emphasizing the great international importance of the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran steel highway, which is an important link in the transcontinental transport infrastructure.
The head of state approved the proposals related to joining the agreements on the International Transit Tariff and the Common Transit Tariff, instructing to study in detail the issues in this direction.
