On the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference, the Turkmen delegation held a number of meetings

As part of the participation of the Turkmen delegation in the 68th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myakhri Byashimova spoke at the plenary session of this session. She noted that all the efforts that Turkmenistan is making indicate a desire to strengthen cooperation with the IAEA in promising areas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports this.

On September 18, the Turkmen delegation met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. The parties paid special attention to the peaceful use of nuclear energy in such areas as medicine, agriculture, environmental protection and water resources management. Among the most important areas is cooperation in the field of medicine, in particular the fight against cancer.  In this regard, the IAEA ImPACT program implemented in Turkmenistan to monitor joint actions was noted. Also, special attention was paid to the development of the Framework Program for Cooperation between the IAEA and Turkmenistan.

Also during the visit, M. Byashimova met with the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Robert Floyd. The parties noted the significance of the entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and emphasized the importance of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

Prospects for cooperation were also discussed, such as: raising awareness among young people about the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty; personnel training; participation of national experts in seminars and trainings organized by the CTBTO, as well as provision of technical support.
