BMW recalls over one million cars in China

German automaker BMW has announced a global recall of more than 1,3 million vehicles sold on the Chinese market. The reason for such a large-scale campaign was the discovered defects in the front airbag system, as reported by the Chinese state regulatory agency, writes snob.ru.

According to official information, the recall affects both locally assembled vehicles and imported models of various series, including popular crossovers. The production period of these vehicles covers more than 15 years. The main problem is the potential absence of a special moisture-absorbing element in the airbag gas generator, which can lead to devastating consequences when deployed.

For safety reasons, BMW is offering owners of vehicles affected by the recall the opportunity to replace the faulty component free of charge.
