A new generation battery has been developed in Sweden

Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, have unveiled a laboratory prototype of a revolutionary battery. This innovative development, called a “massless energy storage device”, is extremely thin and lightweight while maintaining high strength, writes auto.ru.

Key features of the new technology:
carbon fiber, providing lightweight and rigid construction.
possibility of use as part of the power structure of the car body.
ultra-thin thickness, allowing the creation of devices as thick as a bank card.
energy capacity of 30 Wh/kg (for comparison: Hyundai Ioniq 6 - 153 Wh/kg).

Despite the lower energy density, the lightness and thinness allow increasing the range of electric vehicles by about 70%.

At the moment, the technology is at the laboratory prototype stage and requires further testing before possible serial production. Information on the potential cost has not yet been disclosed.
