Toyota, Mazda and Subaru team up to develop next-generation engines

Japanese auto giants Toyota, Mazda and Subaru have entered into a partnership agreement to jointly develop new generation engines. The goal of the cooperation is to create universal internal combustion engines compatible with various types of fuel, including carbon-neutral ones.

The parties will work on their own proprietary engines, but taking into account common requirements. Toyota will focus on inline-four engines, Mazda will continue to develop rotary engines, and Subaru will improve its boxer units.

Particular attention will be paid to the development of compact engines running on liquid hydrogen, bio- or synthetic fuels.

In addition to the internal combustion engine, the partners will jointly develop electrical systems, including electric motors and batteries.

Despite the cooperation, all three companies will remain competitive in the market. Motor.ru reports this.
