Tajikistan launches pilot train on China-Europe route via Turkmenistan

The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan is embarking on an ambitious project to launch a pilot railway route that will connect China and Europe through a number of Central Asian countries, including Turkmenistan. The MIC of Turkmenistan reports this.

Transport Minister Azim Ibrohim instructed his subordinate structures to organize train movement along the multimodal corridor “China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey-Europe”. This step is part of a large-scale program to modernize the country's transport infrastructure.

In addition to launching a new route, the ministry plans to update railway rolling stock, accelerate the digitalization of the industry, and build new logistics centers.

It is important to note that the development of the transport sector was identified as a key area of cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan at the meeting of the heads of the two countries in May 2023. Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon emphasized the need to improve the efficiency of existing and create new international transport routes.
